In Gothic 2, the barrier has fallen and escaped prisoners have been flooding through the pass to Khorinis, endangering the city that has the same name as the island it stands on: Khorinis. The nameless hero has been saved by Xardas the Necromancer from the ruins of the Sleeper. Barely alive, he must gather his strength and defeat the dragons. The colony was left without workers, forcing the king to send an expedition into the mine-valley known from Gothic 1 to get the ore. The valley is overrun by Orcs who took over the lands after the humans left and are besieging the paladins in the Old Camp. The Old Camp has been burned down by dragons and orcs and only the inner castle remains. A large wall has been erected to the west side of the valley, making the Swamp Camp inaccessible. The New Camp has been abandoned also and is covered in snow for some strange reason.

Grand Theft Auto started as a DOS game where you ran around various cities, shooting other citizens, stealing cars, running people over, escaping from the police, oh and doing some missions too. Vice City comes a long way from the aerial-view original, with its now 3rd-person 3D engine being used with the previous game Grand Theft Auto 3. The engine and graphics have some minor improvements over GTA3.

As for the gameplay in GTA:VC, one might be excused in thinking it's the same as in the original GTA. Yes, you can do all the same things, but the 3D perspective alone makes a big difference. If you're naughty enough, you can get the FBI or even the Army after you. There is a variety of weapons to be found - you can only pick up one of each class, eg you can't have both a baseball bat and a golf club. There's also a lot to be done in Vice City that's not related to your standard missions, which now have solid storyline than GTA ever did.

You are Tommy Vercetti. You've been in prison for 15 years and the Mafia wants you to head down to Vice City, Florida to start on the business there and make a mark. During the introduction you look at Tommy taking part at a drug deal which fails and he nearly gets killed. Now you come in and have to take revenge on the guys who stole your money and your drugs. And you musn't forget your Mafia clan...

Released in 2003, Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne is a Film Noir-style 3rd-person action shooter. It is the sequel to Max Payne which pioneered bullet-time as a game element.

Max Payne is your typical hard-nosed detective, speaking with a generally flat tone and using many dark metaphors. His life is a mess. Attached to the NYPD, he has to deal with his lover being the main suspect in a murder case, and that's just the beginning.

The storyline is non-linear - you don't follow the game through in a direct chronological order. It can be confusing to begin with. As the game progresses, you find out more about Max's past and how he got into the mess he's in. The game is also full of distractions - you can talk to the people when you're in the police station, and even annoy some of them; there are TV programs that you can follow all the way through the game, including the Adventures of Captain Baseball Bat Boy.

The game feels like a movie of sorts - it's very well thought out, and there are things you can pick up on after you play it a few times. The story between chapters is revealed in a comic-book-like fashion. The graphics are simply incredible (at least that was my first impression) and it really gets the most out of even older cards. Max Payne 2 has probably the most efficient 3D graphics of any commercial game within the last 5 years. It also has advanced ragdoll physics, without the gore of Doom 3 which makes it both realistic and playable for even the (slightly) faint hearted.

I give Max Payne 2 my personal double thumbs up for well thought-out, engaging gameplay, with gruesomeness concentrated more in the dark storyline than the graphics.

Prey is a first person shooter based on the doom 3 engine. You must save the world. It has gravity effects, a ghost world, puzzles, vehicles, walking headfirst and on walls.
